East Energy Group

Challenges for data centers

Extremely high power consumption during 24/7 operation

  • Permanent energy hunger due to increasing amounts of data

  • Need for reliability and redundancy

  • Electricity costs rise massively

Climate targets and ESG requirements

  • Regulatory pressure (e.g. EU Energy Efficiency Directive)

  • Investors and customers demand CO₂-neutral solutions

  • Data centers are considered an emissions hotspot

Grid connection & location dependency

  • Complex requirements for grid stability and supply

  • High costs for permits and grid connections

  • Inadequate infrastructure in rural areas

Heat remains unused

  • Waste heat is not fed into municipal systems

  • Potential remains untapped

Our solutions for your data center

Own renewable energy supply

  • Development and construction of PV and wind farms near the site

  • PPA models (Power Purchase Agreements) for price security

  • Integration of battery storage for peak loads and grid stability

  • Redundant supply via hybrid solutions (PV + wind + storage)

Sector coupling & waste heat utilization

  • Feeding excess heat into district or local heating networks

  • Use of heat to support municipal infrastructure

  • Combination with heat storage or power-to-heat systems

Site development & network planning

  • Site analysis including grid connection assessment

  • Planning & implementation of medium/high voltage connections

  • Coordination with network operators and authorities

ESG-compliant strategy & funding advice

  • CO₂ accounting and sustainability reporting

  • Acquisition of funding (BEW, EEW, PtX, grid expansion, etc.)

  • Technical & economic feasibility analyses

Typical application examples
in data centers

Power supply of the server core (main load zone)

Solutions:

Direct supply of the main server areas through a combination of rooftop PV and battery storage with uninterruptible power supply (UPS function) to cover peak loads and ensure backup stability.

Result:

Stable, uninterrupted supply to the critical IT core – 30–50% cost savings compared to pure grid power. Increased redundancy, reduced risk of blackouts.

Cooling requirements in the technical floor / HVAC systems

Solutions:

Integration of power-to-heat or power-to-cooling systems (e.g., electrical adsorption cooling) combined with on-site PV power and buffer storage. Excess power is used for air conditioning.

Result:

Electricity and cooling costs are significantly reduced. Self-consumption is increased. CO₂ emissions are reduced by eliminating fossil-fuel cooling (gas, oil, or diesel).

Power supply for access and security areas

Solution:

Independent supply of security gates, surveillance systems and access control technology via dedicated PV modules plus emergency power storage in island operation (self-sufficient security zone).

Result:

Critical infrastructure independent of network operations. Increased operational reliability and resilience. Combining cybersecurity and physical resilience.

Use of server waste heat for district heating

Solution:

Installation of a heat exchanger system connected to the municipal local or district heating network. Temperature management and control technology included.

Result:

Up to 80% of the waste heat generated can be used economically. Operating costs are reduced through remuneration or feed-in. Public relations and ESG effective (Scope 1/2).
